April 19: A Day for Action, Earth, and Community

Looking for a way to participate in the next Day of Action on Saturday April 19?  Here are two great options for Henderson County Dems & Friends to consider.

The Third Annual Hendo Earth Fest

The Third Annual Hendo Earth Fest will take place from 10 AM to 3 PM on Main Street in downtown Hendersonville. Several HCDP folks are involved in this event that is intended "to promote community education for all ages on environmental and sustainable practices, inspire action, and renew and expand commitments to protect our planet." With Trump's attacks on public lands, clean energy, and other sustainability efforts, it's more important than ever to show that the people value environmental protection and want to ensure that our children inherit a healthy planet! And it's a great way to have an early celebration for Earth Day. The People's Town Hall for Liberty

In Asheville, The People's Town Hall for Liberty will take place in Pack Square from noon to 2 PM. Sponsored by Red, Wine and Blue and others, it is a community gathering to demand answers from our elected officials. The front part of Pack Square will be a town hall-style event while an Activism Fair with grassroots groups will be in the back. A little background:

The organization 50501 is a collective of grassroots organizations that spearheaded the April 5 Day of Protest and is now encouraging people to follow up with activity on April 19. As they said in a recent Facebook post, April 19th is intended to be a day of action but it is not at all limited to protest. This can look like:

  • Donating to a local organization that feeds/clothes/ helps local people, especially underserved areas.

  • Hosting a picnic where everyone brings a few items that are in good condition to swap out for something they might need from someone else.

  • Do a clothing drive during a park day or community cook out.

  • Meet up at the library to discuss different actions or start a book club.

💙We need to think about the America we want to see, where we have empathy and help each other, and just become that.

That's just as important as protesting.

💙This administration is taking away our social support webs, it is actively hurting people and will harm even more people day by day.

It's time to become the social support web.

💙Big national protest pushes will come, no worries, but we need to do more than just protest if we're going to get through this.
