DSNAP: Disaster Food Assistance Available Now!

What is DSNAP?

DSNAP is a one-time payment to help you buy food after a disaster. The money goes on an EBT card you can use at most grocery stores.

How much can I get?

  • $292 for one person

  • More for larger households

  • Use it anytime in the next 9 months

When to apply: October 18-24, 2024

Where to apply: Henderson County residents: 2111 Asheville Hwy., Hendersonville, NC 28739.

  • HIGHLY RECOMMEND applying in person to avoid long phone wait times. You may receive your DSNAP EBT card on the same day if you are approved in person.

  • Open weekends 9am-2pm, weekdays 8am-4pm

  • Online is pre-registration for a representative to contact you for a phone interview. It does NOT count as applying

  • If you are unable to come to the Henderson County office because you work in Buncombe County, you can come to the Buncombe County office as a special exception. The Buncombe County address is 40 Coxe Avenue, Asheville, NC 28801.

What to bring: Just your ID! No other documents needed.

Once I apply, will I be approved? It’s likely. The limit is based on your income and accessible resources from 9/25 and 10/24 and is higher than the limits for regular SNAP programs. They will only look at what you had access to. Then they will SUBTRACT any expenses you have paid for in that time period. Your expenses should include almost ANYTHING you’ve paid for (food, clothes, gas, chainsaw, generator, repairs, batteries, trash bags, cleaning products, etc). Once they have your income/resources MINUS your expenses, whatever is left must be below $2171 for a single person, but it goes up for each additional person included in your household.

Already have SNAP? Additional funds should have been added to your card. No need to apply for DSNAP.
