Yesterday, the Historic Courthouse courtyard in Downtown Hendersonville became a powerful gathering space for justice, equality, and resistance. At noon, hundreds of people rallied together to make their voices heard, standing against the attacks on our rights, democracy, and future by Trump, Elon Musk, and the current administration.
The stakes have never been higher, and this peaceful RESIST rally sent a strong message that our community will not stand idly by. Attendees held signs, cheered, and engaged in passionate conversations about the most pressing issues of our time: trans rights, immigrant rights, racial justice, education, and more.
A highlight of the rally was the live band that kept spirits high and energy levels soaring. The atmosphere was not just one of protest but also one of unity and hope. As one attendee put it, this was a "PRO-test-ament gathering"—not just a protest but a declaration of being PRO justice, PRO diversity, PRO LGBTQ+, PRO women’s rights, PRO equality, PRO love, and PRO democracy.
The event was organized by Holly Newton, who, although not affiliated with a particular group, reached out to various organizations, including the local NAACP branch, to spread the word. Thanks to Holly’s leadership, the rally saw participation from numerous advocacy groups, faith-based organizations, and concerned citizens, all uniting to amplify their collective voice for justice and equality. Several groups spoke to the crowd, including representatives from Hendersonville's Diversity Equity and Inclusion Committee, the Progressive Alliance of Hendersonville, and Hendersonville Pride.
The turnout was overwhelming, with people from all walks of life showing up to take a stand. One rallygoer commented, "Hendersonville SHOWED UP! We cannot remain silent in the face of what’s going on, and today, we were plenty noisy!" Another attendee expressed gratitude for the event, saying, "What a wonderful rally! So grateful to see all the support for saving our democracy and our way of life."
Hendersonville made it clear that silence is not an option. This rally was a testament to the power of collective action and the unwavering spirit of a community that refuses to back down. As the fight for justice continues, events like this serve as a reminder that when we stand together, our voices become impossible to ignore.
