Post Hurricane Election Information

Updated: Oct 21

As of now, there have been no changes to the voting rules in Henderson County. However, the State Board of Elections will meet on Monday, October 7th to discuss potential emergency measures. Any changes made will require approval by the State Assembly.

Current Voting Guidelines

  • Voter ID Requirements are still in place. However, an important exception applies if you have been a victim of a natural disaster within 100 days before Election Day, resulting in a disaster declaration by the President of the U.S. or the Governor of N.C. If this applies to you, you can vote provisionally until the Board finalizes the exception.

  • Early Voting: The single early voting location is the Henderson County Board of Elections (75 E Central St, Hendersonville, NC 28792). It will be open as planned with no issues expected.

  • Vote-by-Mail (VBM): The County Board of Elections is fully operational and processing mail-in ballots as usual. If you’ve requested a ballot and haven't received it by October 10th or need it sent to an alternate location, call the BOE for a replacement.

  • In-Person Voting: If you’ve received a mail ballot but prefer to vote in person, you can still do so.

  • Ballot Submission: If you’ve evacuated to a new location, you can request a mail ballot through the online portal. If concerned about returning your ballot by mail, you can hand-deliver it to the BOE during open hours (note: there is no dropbox). You can also complete your ballot at the BOE, where staff can act as witnesses.

Election Day Voting Locations

Some Election Day voting locations have been affected:

  • At least four locations have been destroyed.

  • Up to ten are currently unavailable due to schools being used as evacuation centers.

The BOE has a plan to replace these locations, with some merging with nearby polling places. Updates on replacement locations are expected this week. Multiple communication channels will be used to inform voters of any changes.

For any concerns or updates, please contact the Henderson County Board of Elections:

  • Phone: (828) 697-4970

  • Location: 75 E Central Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792

Stay informed, and remember, your vote matters!
