Rachel Hunt, candidate for NC lieutenant governor and current state senator, spelled out the importance of this year’s elections during a July 17th Meet & Greet here in Hendersonville.
Here are just a few quotes from the evening:
On our public school system: We know what North Carolina was and what North Carolina can be. We were the state known as the beacon of the South. Teachers moved here to teach. And now we have a 10,000 teacher vacancy in North Carolina and people leaving the profession in droves.
On this moment in time: This year is the turning point. This is the pivotal point for this state, not just this country, and if we can’t turn things around it’s going to be too late.
On the candidates running: We know the council of state folks running this year on the Democratic side are the best council of state group we’ve ever had in North Carolina and the most experienced. And the ones we’re running against are the most extreme. So we’ve got to make it happen, folks.
On respect for educators: Teachers, teacher assistants, custodians, cafeteria staff, bus drivers—they all need to be treated and paid like the professionals they are.
