According to Blue Ridge Now, Governor Stein requested $1 billion from the North Carolina General Assembly to help WNC recover from Helene. However, the legislature is considering funding $500 million of the request.
The legislature's House bill doesn’t include $34 million requested for impacted school districts to stem learning loss; $150 million in grants to businesses that sustained losses because of the storm; or $100 million in revenue replacement for local governments.
Take Action
Contact our three state legislators, Senator Tim Moffitt and Representatives Jennifer Balkcom and Jake Johnson to urge their support for the entire $1 billion request. Note the exclusion of $34 million for school districts in particular.
